These cake boards are ¼” inch thick and are made of corrugated cardboard with a full wrap edge for an exquisite finished look. The cake boards have a white laminated surface that is said to be moisture-proof and oil-proof. This cake board is designed to support the weight of a cake without flexing, bending, distorting, or collapsing. These cake boards have a maximum diameter of 12-inches. Consequently, the diameter of the cake to be placed upon the cake board must be somewhat less than 12-inches and if the cake is to be frosted, allowances must be then made for the thickness of the frosting to be applied to the sides of the cake. Because these cake boards are a full 12-inches in diameter, a 9-inch to 10-inch cake may be placed upon the cake board and lots of room left around the cake base for decorative icing interpretations of the baker with room to spare. These cake boards are very nice looking, quite strong, and the laminated layer will prevent the corrugated cardboard from absorbing moisture or oil and becoming weak. These cake boards should provide the needed bases for cakes given as gifts.

I bake cakes often. A cake board is a MUST if you plan on doing nice decorations on a spinning cake stand. I've been using nice 1" cake boards for fancy cakes that need to travel, and cheap thin cake boards for cakes that stay at home. But the thin cake boards never realy stay in place well and make decorating difficult. These are an excellent "Goldilocks" version! They really are 1/4" thick. Inexpensive, but durable! I can lift my cake off the decorating spinner with confidence using these with 3-layer cakes. They do have a "laminated" cover on top that is said to be moisture-prrof and oil-proof. I have not been able to test that because I do not plan on baking cakes in the near future. I'm on a diet. "Would I buy these again"? Yes, yes, yes! I highly recommend these over the thinner cake boards ANY day of the week!

My ‘big’ sister has, for decades, been baking chocolate cakes for me to take home every time I visit her (about 160 miles away). She doesn’t ask for anything in return but I thought that the least I could do was provide her with cake boards to replace the ones she uses. I originally got her 10” boards since that is what she has been using but, when I gave them to her, she decided that larger boards might be better. As shown in the accompanying photo, these 12” boards just barely fit the cake carrier (given to me by another sister) but that means that the cakes are more stable during the drive back home; they don’t slide around and ‘smush’ the icing on the side. The boards themselves are at least as sturdy as any I have encountered and the rose pattern on the top makes them much more attractive than the plain, white cardboard I am used to seeing.
