10,000 BTU's? More like 5,000
Interesting little unit. Don't plan on operating unless you can keep your batteries charged up via an APU or running your engine every 2 hours. We have an International 9200i semi truck with a 4 battery box.The power drain is quite significant and will cause you to need a jump off if you plan to site and not idle. We have an APU to charge off the batteries but over 8 hours, it will go from 12.8vdc to 11.9vdc. An automotive alternator type on an APU can't keep up.Overall, a nice system. But I question the 10k BTU. It's more like 5k or so.The water condensation drain in not adequate and needed to be modified to stop the water from overfilling and being sprayed out over the bunk and saturating our bedding. Poor drain design. We installed another battery box with four more batteries. Running the APU will keep the system operating on our rest time without draining the batteries in order to start the main engine.Installing was required by a professional AC person. DO NOT attempt to think you can install without solid experience. We paid $500.00 to have it professionally installed with a one year warranty on workmanship.Bottomline. A cheap alternative to traditional cooling in our semi truck. So far, so good. My only concern is obtaining parts when needed. For the price, and considering how long the unit lasts, will probably simply purchase another unit, either outside, or inside unit and plug in play as needed.
