Outback Trading Company 1472 Kodiak

This is a replacement for when my beloved original was lost. This is an absolutely fantastic hat. The solid top and brim keep the sun out completely (as opposed to straw) while the vented sides let the breeze blow through on hot days. It feels like you're in the shade with no hat on. The wired brim is great for shaping to block the sun at weird angles if you need it to. I re-waxed my old one (4 years old) a couple times in order to preserve the water proofing and keep the canvas in shape, and it was easy. I've had another similar Outback (River Guide with mesh). The Kodiak fits better, breaks in better because it's all natural fibers, and the larger brim is much better for providing shade. I hope that the company keeps making these because it seemed harder to find this time than the last time I bought it. I am an organic farmer and spend all day out doors. I believe that at this price point, it is the most value for the money, and easily matches or surpasses competitors' hats priced twice as much.

The hat is attractive, appears to be well-made, fits well, and is fulfilling its intended purpose of providing comfortable, ventilated sun protection for outdoor activities. The hat arrived in excellent condition, and appeared to very closely match the color shown in the picture. This is a much higher quality product than many "one-size-fits-all" sun hats I have seen in various stores. Two weeks into using it, I would highly recommend this hat.

Terrible hat. Cheaply made. Zero fit - the top is too high. I tried it on and haven't put it on since.

This is my third Outback hat. I use this hat fishing to block the sun. The mesh crown breaths well and helps keep me cool. I am on the water with this hat 40 or more days a year and the hat will last about 5 years. Eventually it will fade and lose its shape from exposure to the sun. I will use the hat in the rain by adding the plastic cover for wide brim hats used by police who wear a similar hat. I prefer this to the hood on my rain jacket.

Very stylish yet extremely useful offering excellent protection from the sun

It felt a tiny bit small but not in any way uncomfortable. I prefer all my clothing, shoes, and everything to be a little loose. I'm not a skinny jeans type. The hat, as most hats, should probably be a little snug so it don't blow off or fall off when you bend over. I gave it 5 stars for that reason as it fits fine even if a little small for my taste.

Looks great in the picture, however, the quality is poor. Basically, it is some sort of semi-flexible cardboard with wire brim; made in China.Don't try to shape it to look like the picture. Since it is a very rigid, stiff hat, when you give it such shape, it looks absolutely awful. I have been a customer of Outback for a long time; this hat is not becoming of Outback.Bijan Gilani

Quality, nicely made safari type oilskin hat. Easy to hold its shape and has chin strap that can be fixed to go behind head, under chin or both in high winds. No faults sound. Looks great.
