You need to remove brochures to fully collapse unit.

How stable is the rack when erected? Would it easily fall over or collapse if bumped into, caught by the wind, or grabbed onto by an unobserved child?

It is pretty stable once you have literature loaded on it. It will not fall over easily. It's not anchored to the floor, so it will fall over with enough force but not something I worry about.

how many A4 size brochures I can put on 1 stage?

I put 20 8x11 sized brochures in each slot.
