Slow start, good run
Entirely different from Discworld. It takes some getting used to. I was constantly wondering on "how would that work?" Plus, I could not help but calling to mind imagery from The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth to help me through the story.Still, the novel is clearly a Pratchett novel: his wit, imagination and philosophy shine from the pages. A fun read.

Exceeded my expectations
Since I got a used library copy, I was kind of hoping to get the original version instead of the re-written one, but it was the newer one. I have no idea what the difference is, but this was a really good book. My kids just love the idea of it, so it is shortly going to be our bedtime story, with a chapter a night.I love all of Pratchett's work that I have read, with the first Discworld novel being my least favorite. I highly recommend The Carpet People to all Pratchett fans and Fantasy/fiction readers.

A Great Idea!
Apparently this is Mr. Pratchett's first novel and has nothing to do with Discworld, so don't expect that. It's an intriguing concept...an entire world so teensy-weensy that a carpet is their world. Here the inhabitants mind the copper from a penny...just to give you some idea of just how small their world is. A good beginning to Mr. Pratchett's writing career, but greater efforts were to follow.

Pratchett's Debut
Sir PTerry has re-done his very early debut novel (a charming adventure/fantasy) and included his completely captivating illustrations. In this, the version published in Great Britain, the type font is larger than in the U.S. version. I don't know whether I prefer it or not. The story is a good read, and those illustrations are a treat. Good for children from 10 to 100.

Not Pratchett's best.
After reading the author's note at the end I understand why I was not enjoying this story as much as I usually do reading Pratchett. It does appear to be immature, but the older more experienced Pratchett shines through from time to time and is there at the end. Like he said, "you asked for it."

Imagination has no boundaries
Amazing. The author only seventeen, huh? As a "Fray" I'll never step on my carpet again without a bad feeling...

A first for me
My son and I read this book together and we loved it. It's a great story with some lovely characters. Not too complicated but with enough different plots to make it interesting for a 11 year old and an adult.I have never read any Terry Prachett before but I certainly will now.

The Carpet People
It is clear that this is an early work of Terry Pratchett's and you can see the seed of discworld germinating within its pages. An enjoyable story and as always infused with Pratchett's wit, wisdom and cheeky good humour.

Wise, funny and utterly glorious!!
I have never read Terry Pratchett, imaging his writing to be too weird and strange for my understanding and then an Instagram feature on Pratchett persuaded me that actually this might be writing I would love. The audiobook of The Carpet People seemed the perfect place to start . This is the most impossible story to summarise, not least because the characters have such wild and wonderful names - Glurk, Pismire...and the story is set in a carpet. โIn the beginning..there was nothing but endless flatness. Then came the carpet..โ This is the story of two munrung brothers setting off on a great adventure as the world of the carpet is under threat from Fray. This book exists on so many levels -children will love the sheer adventure, the battles and fun and naughtiness. And then thereโs the incredibly sharp comedy and the deep philosophy..David Tennant could read anything and make it wonderful and in his hands wonderful is made incredible, out of this world. He creates such a huge range of voices and a whole cast of characters exploded into view! This is a fantastic listen but itโs also a difficult one! The book is packed with comedy and little gems of philosophy which you want to savour and digest. I wanted to write down quotes to mull over so I was forever pressing pause! So I have decided that I just have to a) listen again and b) read the book as well because this is one to devour again and again!

True Pratchet insight to the world
Love him just love him BUT not 5*as I did get a bit lost with all the tribes! (Who was fighting who, or even what ) and the ending was a bit "airyfairy" and also who or what is the Fray - thought it was a Hoover but who knows and may be that's the point. Not for young readers in my opinion but imaginative and the siimilarities to our world but with Pratchet interpretation and twist and wonderful story telling, made it an interesting read as always.

Terry Pratchett the early years.
Don't expect The Carpet People to populated with the usual Disc World characters, this is not a Disc World tale but one about Almost microscopic people living in a carpet, who must come together to battle Fray (who is never seen only felt) and an assortment of quite brutal foes. Strange places like chair legs, skirting boards and underlay, every day items to us but fantastical or dangerous places to them. This book, like all of Terry Pratchett's can be read on several levels at once. There is the story of the Carpet people, a tale of, heroes, villains, quests, kings, empires and holy people, his usual humour shines through. Then parallels with our own world and everything, war, oppression and natural disaster can throw at us and how as a race these can be overcome. Written ( in his own words) by two people Terry Pratchett at 17 and Terry Pratchett at 43! A book written at the start of an illustrious career and then honed by a master story teller. To get a feel for Pratchett, the early years, this is well worth a read.

The Carpet People.
The Carpet People is written by a 17 year old Terry Pratchett and then made better by the author in later life. I enjoyed reading it and found it entertaining and well written. It did not have the same feel as the Discworld novels but I was fascinated to see how you could weave a story around tiny creatures that live in a fireside rug. It has a light touch and is worth reading but the ending is a little like a damp squib compared to what it could have been. Overall it was well worth reading just not as good as the Discworld novels.

A MUST READ BOOK.
Grandson absolutely loves this book. He is now the possessor of 4 more Terry Pratchett books because of his favourable reaction to this book. He has talked in glowing terms about it and says he looks forward to bed time just to hear more. Can't be bad! I would highly recommend this book for children, infact when he is done with it I want to read it!!!!!
